What is YOUR Story? Contest and Book Deal for Maryland Residents — Calvert, Charles or St. Mary’s County. The contest has two categories:  Youth (grades six -12) and Adult.  The youth category requires stories be between 500 and 1500 words, while adults need to write between 1000 and 5000 words. 

Participants are asked to submit a story (fiction or nonfiction) related to one of the themes in “The Distance Between Us,” including: poverty, immigration, family, the American Dream, ideals, freedom, opportunity, childhood, acceptance, coming to America, diversity, education, home, achievement, the pursuit of happiness, or any other theme related to the book. [Details]
